Letter from Henry D. Peire to Andrew Jackson

[November 7, 1814]
8 o'clock

At last the Spanish commandant has agreed to deliver up the Fort. Capt Dinkins, may enter the Fort and I did think it prudent that the Spanish Troops should remain for the night at the Fort to avoid confusion, and perhaps disagreable consequences. they conditions are that we take possession and that the Spanish flag will remain hoisted. to morrow the conditions shall be written and signed.
