Letter from Andrew Jackson to James Berns

Orleans Prison Febuary 8th. 1815

     I take the Liberty of Adressing the Note to your Excellency hoping you will have the Goodness to Examine into my Case. I am a Volunteer of the first Regemant of Maryland Malitia Discharged at Baltimore on the thirtyeth of October Anod 1814 and have Come Down here with arms and amunition and am Confined here under the pretext of being an Alien by birth Now as I have Done Everything in my power in Support of the Rights Honour and Liberty of the United States I trust in your justice and humanity for A hearing of my Case I am With Submission on Respect
